COMSTAR FIELD HEADQUARTERS

TUKAYYID

7 MAY 3052

The ComStar ROM agent Christine Rosenfeld stood with crossed arms, glaring down at Adam, who was sitting in the sterile isolation room. Her black hair was devoid of any sort of style, worn short. Her white uniform was the only thing that gave her face any color, and even then, it was pale.

“So, you claim you are Tai-i Adam Kaningamu of the Draconis Combine, and that you’ve been living as a bondsman for the last two years to the warrior you brought in with you?” Her voice was calm, level, but oddly threatening.

He almost answered, “Aff,” but caught himself. “Yes.”

The question gave Agent Rosenfeld a rare moment of pause. “An intriguing question. To be blunt, someone from another intelligence agency attempting to perform some sort of deep-cover infiltration. It is not my job to discern a motive—only to find the truth.”

Truth is always a matter of perspective. “You may take my blood if you desire it.”

“Not necessary. We have already made arrangements to validate your identity.” There was a slight, ominous tone in her voice that Adam presumed was designed to intimidate him. It failed.

I have been through more than you can comprehend. It has not broken me—it has only made me stronger…
